DFEi Students Council Reps present Barry Andrews, CEO of Goal, with a cheque for €830.25.
A total of €830.25 was raised through a raffle and bring and buy cake sale, with all proceeds going to the Haiyan disaster in the Philippines. This fundraiser was organised by the Students Council and turned out to be a great success. DFEi always have a large number of Filipino students attending courses and this year is no exception. Collectively DFEi would like to extend out sympathy and support to these students.
Many of the students and staff contributed their time and talents including teacher Brian Smith's eye catching poster; teacher Sinead Byrne, Chair of the Student Council who elicited the help of the students reps in selling tickets and cakes and teacher John McFadden who arranged for students to help with the music production. Uplifting performances by teacher and violinist Audrey Trainor with Derek O'Looney (MP1) on guitar, caretaker Paddy Doyle's tremendous singing, MP2 student Christian Adekunle AKA Rapper CK who wowed the audience all contributed to the electric atmosphere. Without the assistance of the following MP2 student's who carried out the sound engineering Jurgis Merkasaitis, Glenn Patel and Nathan Jennings, and the students from the Nursing and Care Assistant classes, who sold cakes and raffle tickets on the day, the event would not have been the success that it was. Thanks also to teacher Pat Kiersey for taking photographs of the event and Laura Fryday for keeping students informed by email.
Finally many thanks goes to Susan Burke event co-orindator who is responsible for the overall organisation and success of this event.
