Gurteen 2013 - February 4th to 8th

The Advanced Certificate in Animal Health Care travelled to Gurteen as part of a 6 week work placement programme.  Gurteen is the largest Agricultural  farm in the country and is situated in Co Tipperary.  Learners from DFEi avail of a weeks long experience in farm animals which is hands on and very interactive.  They also experience many different equine breeds on this farm and are specifically introduced to the health and safety surrounding farm animals in in particular large animal breeds.

Learners spend a residential week staying in on site campus accommodation so that they can gain an excellent insight into how a large farm operates and gain experience from educators in this field.  This is a vibrant and welcome addition to this level 6 course offered by DFEi.

There is plenty of opportunity for the learners to interact with large animal breeds and the photograph shows Kim Gray and Amy Dowdall feeding a very "Happy Lamb".

Georgina Gleeson (DFEi) said the following "Brilliant week, everyone was nice and friendly and let us help out with all aspects of farm work and life.  The hands on experience made the different.  Instead of just watching I learned quite a lot of valuable information and saw it put into practice".
