DFEi shows it has ‘the write stuff’!
Aspiring journalism students flocked to DFEi on Tuesday 25th November for the 2015 News Conference run by News Academy; a branch of News UK.
As part of the conference, students had the chance to meet top journalists such as UK Editor of the Sun newspaper, Tony Gallagher and sportswriter, Cathal Dervan.
DFEi was delighted to be chosen to host the conference for the second year running. Duncan White, Director of News Academy, described the day: "Our Dublin conference was packed with talented students and aspiring writers.
“The News Academy Dublin Conference was a huge success and the perfect place to search out tomorrow's talented journalists. With lively debate and challenging questions, we were able to discuss some of the most important issues affecting journalism and the future of the profession.”
Frances Fitzgerald TD, Minister for Justice and Equality, addressed the conference, emphasising the need for active and challenging journalism in Ireland. She then fielded questions from the tough crowd which comprised trainee journalists mingled with transition year students.
During a networking break, journalists and editors circulated among students and told them about the rigors of their daily jobs.
“The news conference is a great opportunity to see how the theory taught as part of our journalism course is applied in real life, and to learn about the everyday challenges of a tough business,” said Gemma Cox, Course Coordinator for Journalism at DFEi.
