"Cruising The Wave" at DFEi

Learners from the second year of the Radio Broadcasting course launched "The Wave Online" for the fourth year running on the 18th February 2013.  This station first went live in 2009 and has been a great addition to DFEi life and the environs of Dún Laoghaire and those who choose to tune in either on digital or on 97.3fm.

This year nine learners ran the station and took it in turns to be the station manager.  The station is fully licensed by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and was broadcast on 97.3fm from the 18th February to the 24th February 2013.  Broadcasts were also available online.

The station included a morning show, documentaries at lunchtime and a drive-time show in the afternoon which included traffic updates as well as a mix of music from hip hop to traditional.

Interns from the Sound Production course also assisted in the studio production and programme support.  All of this was achieved under the watchful eye of Head of Radio, Adrian Smith, who stated that the station "gives learners an excellent experience in organising and running a real radio station on a daily basis".
