What a fabulous trip we had this year. 10 students, full of enthusiasm and fun with a great "can do attitude". Matthew Kenny, Ian Murphy, James Kearney, Anthony Hanniver, Kamila Carolyn, Chantelle Daly, Chloe Burke, Susan Owens, Michael King and Megan Hayes. Pat Kiersey, our photography teacher, drove the students down on the sturdy old DFEi mini bus. Digital Marketing teacher Marie Lonergan organised the trip with the help of John Martin, and Mark Geraghty.
A day full of activity; starting out with some lively ice breaker games. It didn't take long for the students to "break the ice". While on our three hour hike in the Glencree valley, we heard great ideas for the student council. A hiking society, social events pre-Christmas and some suggestions as to how to improve student facilities.
After 2 hours of trekking we finally arrived at the most breath-taking view, looking down over the Powerscourt waterfall on our right and the Sugar Loaf on our right. A small stop and a brisk downhill walk back to the hostel.
Ian, James and Anthony had prepared a delicious Bolognese. Lovely hint of chilli in each bite. A quick tidy up and Sinead O'Brien arrived with all her instruments for the drum circle workshop. Nice rhythms, some free flow, some reggae beats. Enough to get us in the mood for the trad session in Johnny Foxes pub.
Always good to end day hiking with a drink and a laugh. And that is exactly how this fantastic group of students and teachers ended the day.
A thoroughly enjoyable and memorable trip.
Thanks to all the students and teachers and Cecilia for her support.
