Learners and teachers from DFEi have again achieved National Skills success in recent Carpentry and Cabinet Making competitions.
In Carpentry three DFEi apprentices achieved 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the competition which was held in the Cork Institute of Technology in December 2012. Stephen Doonan was announced at the 2013 Apprentice Carpenter of the Year with Shane Rogers achieving 2nd and David Morgan achieving 3rd. Chief examiner, Pat Noonan (DFEi) prepared these 3 apprentices for this competition.
DFEi was also host to the Cabinet Making competition in December 2012. Declan Barrett (Chief Examiner DFEi) organised and supervised this competition, which had entrants from GMIT and DIT. Shane O'Halloran, who was the first FE finalist in this section, while representing DIT studied previously at DFEi. The winner of this competition was Darren Barber, from GMIT Letterfrack, with Shane O'Halloran achieving second place. Winners of both these competitions will represent Ireland in the 2013 World Skills competition which will be held in Leipzig, Germany in July 2013.
