Students piled into the canteen on the 12th December for the annual DFEi Talent Show, organised by class SE5B, with Event Management teacher Fionnuala Martin at the helm. The show was modelled on the X-Factor, only with more talent and fewer tears! The raffle at the event was in aid of St Catherine's House for Children with Autism and Intellectual difficulties.
Bravely taking the stage first were The Sean Lay Band, singing "Shake Down", an edgy blend of hard drumming and gentle sax playing. Judges John, Willie, Berni and Gemma all loved them, with Berni and John both comparing them to the band Gorillaz.
Next was Megan Evans on the Ukulele. Megan's voice was clear and angelic, and she calmed the crowd down in time for the frenetic vocal stylings and disc spinning of CK Swavie & Nathan Jennings.
Derek O'Looney was up next, singing along to acoustic guitar and performing as though he was born to be on stage. Finally, Daniel Hoff and Eoin Stanley closed the show in style with their (far superior) version of a Paola Nutini song.
While the judges were making their tough decision, raffle tickets were drawn for prizes, which had been kindly donated by local businesses.
The judges picked two winners, of which the crowd had the unenviable task of choosing a final victor. They cheered raucously for the Sean Lay Band, but a little bit more raucously for Derek O'Looney, so Derek took the title!
The event, another resounding success for DFEi's Sound Production Department, was capably MC'd by students Paige Watters, Kevin Curry and Thomas Shortt.
