The annual DFEi Student Council trip to Glendalough took place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October 2013.
Class representatives from all classes at DFEi were invited to attend the weekend as part of the annual team building exercise; a total of 14 students along with four members of staff participated in the weekend.
DFEi Photography teacher Pat Kiersey had the role of minibus driver and he managed to squeeze everyone into DFEi’s trusty old bus. It was at this point that the adventure started. The bus miraculously made it up the hills and everyone arrived alive. After lunch all took part in team building games with balloons, blindfolds, bamboo cane, gutter pieces and tennis balls. Yes, the mind boggles!
The group then embarked on a gentle hike through the valley and some of the more adventurous participants chose to try out tree climbing with harnesses and ropes. It was back then to the hostel for spaghetti Bolognese and chilli. All students helped to prepare and clean up.
The group then participated in a workshop which consisted of a drum circle with African drums. Some serious drummers showed off their skills and others made a great effort to keep the beat. The group then adjourned to the local pub which thankfully had a jukebox and a pool table. The rest, as they say, is history!
The following morning there was time for breakfast and the group made the return trip home bonded as a team and ready for the year ahead.
