A Working Journalist's Working Lunch

12 December 2012

On a dull January day, veteran Journalist and author, Kieran Fagan, agreed to share the experiences of a lifetime's writing with the learners in the Advanced Certificate in Print Journalism (PJ6).  He held the audience captive for over an hour as he regaled them, in his trademark gentle voice, with tales of writing for Maeve Binchy in The Irish Times, to writing a tome about Professor Edward Walsh, the first president of the University of Limerick (formerly NIHE).

Having written for all the major broadsheets about countless topics for over thirty years, Kieran advised the learners not only to be prepared to write about diverse subjects, but also to differentiate themselves by having specialities.

Orla Murphy (PJ6) was so taken with Kieran that she profiled him in a feature assignment and this interview took place in the DFEi radio studio.  The lunch was modest, the learners were interested and polite, but most of all, Kieran brightened up a dull January day.
