Course Aims

This course is an excellent foundation for Film and Television degrees in Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology, Institute of Technology Tallaght, National University of Ireland Maynooth and other Universities. Learners will acquire practical skills in both Film and Television Production, including single camera production, non-linear film and video editing. Through the study of Media Analysis, learners gain knowledge of how the relationship between the producer, the advertiser and the audience impact on one another. These skills will be evidenced in a portfolio of work including Film, Scriptwriting and Photography.

• Leaving Certificate Established/LCVP
• Leaving Certificate Applied
• Relevant Level 4 QQI Award
• Mature applicants are welcome

Special Features

This is a practical course where the learner will develop a personal portfolio of work structured and produced to television and video industry standards. Learners will use professional digital cameras, editing techniques and practice using Avid Media Composer (software), as well as darkroom practice and techniques.

Additional Information

Learners will produce a  portfolio of materials from their course work in Film, Scriptwriting, and Photography, which may be used for applications to Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology and other Higher Education Institutes.


Progression Opportunities

DFEi:  Graduates may progress to the Level 6 QQI Advanced Certificate in Television and Digital Film at DFEi

Elsewhere: Graduates are eligible to apply through the CAO snf/or the Higher Education Links Scheme to a range of higher certificate and degree programmes, at both Universities and Institutes of Technology.
